Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Tyler Jaggers, a dedicated U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer stationed at Air Station Astoria, passed away on March 5, 2026, following injuries sustained during a high-stakes mission. On February 27, while responding to a medical emergency aboard a cargo vessel roughly 120 nautical miles off the coast of Cape Flattery, Washington, Petty Officer Jaggers was critically injured during the rescue operation. Known for his relentless drive and excellence within the rescue swimmer community, he was meritoriously advanced to AST2 and posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, one of the nation’s highest honors for heroism in aerial flight. His passing is a profound loss to the Coast Guard and the Astoria community, serving as a solemn reminder of the bravery inherent in the rescue swimmer’s creed, “So Others May Live.”
